Windows ME Dialup HOWTO
Making A New Connection

Click on Start -> Settings -> Dial-Up Networking.

In the Dial-Up Networking window that appears, double click on Make
New Connection.

Type a name for the computer your are dialing (the name is not important
and can be whatever you want) and make sure your modem is selected under
the Select a device menu. Then click Next .

In the next screen, leave the Area Code blank and type in the full
phone number under the Telephone Number box. Then click Next.

Then you will a window saying that you have successfully created a new
dial networking connection. Click Finish to complete this part of
the setup.

You will now see a new connection with the name you gave it in the Dial-Up
Networking window.

Right-click on that connection. From the pop-up menu that appears,
click on Properties.

In the Properties window that appears, click on the Networking
tab
and check Enable software compression.

Uncheck NetBEUI and IPX/SPX if they are checked.

Check TCP/IP then click on the TCP/IP Settings button.

Make sure Server assigned IP address is selected. Then click
on Specify name server addresses .

For the Primary DNS: type 216.116.128.3
-
For the Secondary DNS: type 216.116.128.4
-
Check Use IP header compression
-
Check Use default gateway on remote network .

Click on OK .

Then click the Security tab.

If you want the dial-up connection to remember your username and password,
fill in the User Name box with your INL login name and the Password
box with your INL password. (NOTE: If you share the use of
your computer with someone else, you may not want to save this information
in the connection, and instead enter your login name and password manually
every time you connect).

Click on the Dialing tab.

If you want your computer to dial to Netlabs using this connection any time
you open an Internet application, leave This is the default Internet
connection and Always dial my default connection checked.
For your redial settings, set the computer to make 5 dialing attempts
if the line is busy. If you do not want your computer to try and
disconnect the computer if the computer has been left idle, then uncheck
the Enable idle disconnect box.

Click OK to finish setting up the dial-up connection.

To create a shortcut to this dial-up connection on your desktop, select
the connection you just created in the Dial-Up Networking window
by clicking it once. In the menu bar of the window, click on File
and then choose Create Shortcut.

A window will appear telling you that it could not create a shortcut and
will ask you if you want to place the shortcut on the desktop instead.
Click on Yes.
